Our Story.

Who knows where inspiration comes from. Perhaps it arises from desperation. Perhaps it comes from the flukes of the universe, the kindness of the muses. Amy Tan

Humble beginnings.

Hospitals Beyond Boundaries (HBB) is a non-profit organization (ROS Malaysia Society No: PPM-019-14-22052012) dedicated towards improving the health of vulnerable communities through sustainable health care efforts. We achieve this by establishing hospitals and clinics run by local communities as social health enterprises.

HBB was founded by Dr. Lutfi & Dr. Hannan on the 22nd of May 2012. Back then, they were just medical students and it was a difficult time for them, especially in convincing people of their vision. They were thought of as too young and too ambitious to do real change in helping underserved communities.

Our mission.

We want to improve the health of vulnerable communities through sustainable health care efforts.

We believe that poverty forces people to live in environment that make them sick, hence we also look beyond curative measures to include adequate shelter, hygiene, nutrition and health education.

Fast forward to 2020, 8 years since the establishment of HBB, the achievements they had on their hands are staggering considering the very short period of time. They started with merely a mobile clinic, then later built a community clinic, and progressing from that HBB now having their very own maternity hospital serving the marginalized community in Cambodia, providing safe environment for deliveries in a place where giving birth remains a matter of life and death for both the mother and the newborn.

The United Nations also recognised HBB as part of the United Nations Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals initiative. Apart from Cambodia, HBB aren't forgetting their home with mobile clinic here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia serving the homeless people living in the city.
